Putting God First
On Christmas Sunday, Pastor Sam spoke about the birth of Christ and the meaning of Christmas. He tied this in with the upcoming Solomon’s Porch new year’s fast (including the practicalities, as well as the spiritual meaning of fasting and biblical basis).
Matthew 1:23: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which ‘means ‘God with us”).” Because God gave his only Son who died for us, we have God with us. P Sam outlined 4 steps through which we can invite God into our hearts.
1. Visitation and revelation: humility. The shepherds were of humble, and they were the ones that God brought revelation to. The upcoming fast is an opportunity to humble ourselves – giving the first fruits of the year to God.
2. Hope (Luke 2:19: “Mary treasured these things and pondered them in her heart”). All things are possible through God, and in contemplating this upcoming year, we should hope and dream about what God may be able to do in and through our lives in 2017.
3. Worship (Luke:20: “The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.”): Through worship, we invite God into our hearts – there is reward in worship.4. You are the decision maker: Only you can make room in your heart for Jesus.
