Last Sunday Pastor Sam preached on Nehemiah ch. 4. He highlighted that when the Israelites started to rebuild the temple they first made sure that strong walls were in place. Strong walls are also important for ministry and in the spiritual live in general. When people fall away from the faith it is often not a one-off decision but a slow accumulation of small decisions. This is why strong defences, without any cracks are important. Pastor Sam also noted how the Israelites first had to clear the rubble away before they could rebuild. In our spiritual lives too, it is important to clear away spiritual junk. To this end Pastor Sam invited the congregation to declutter their lives. He asked the congregation to take two rubbish bags this week, one physical and one spiritual. The physical one should be filled with all clothes and given to charity and the spiritual one should be filled with spiritual junk and thrown out.
